Day Fifty six: Friday 15th May 2020

Was at the Christie’s today for one of my regular scans; was nervous because it was my first trip out during lockdown. They had set everything up beautifully, from initial arrival, the waiting area, the scan and the departure. I wore a mask as did about 95% of everyone else there: what strikes me most about the experience is that how much we signal with our mouths, I don’t mean the talking, but rather the smiling, indicating a feeling etc. usually when you say thank you you smile at the same time but now you can’t see the smile, it’s almost like half speak! I notice you do spend more time looking at people’s eyes and trying to read them. This Corona virus is subsequently robbing us of our ability to show empathy through our expression; so it means we have to make a bigger effort. For the foreseeable future make sure your compassion and empathy is not hidden behind a mask, go out of your way to share what comes from your heart with others.
