Day One hundred & five: Friday 3rd July 2020, St Thomas

We all know about doubting Thomas, but perhaps we do him an injustice because his unbelief becomes a moment of great faith when he says words which each generation has been brought up to love, “My Lord and my God.” You may not be as familiar with this moment in the Gospels or realised Thomas was involved: Thomas said, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life.’ So Thomas has plenty to offer us, and in a way he is a good example of how we feel at times, sometimes thinking God doesn’t listen or is even there and then other times when realising he was with us all the time. Never be frightened of doubt or asking questions for often they are an invitation of exploring more and coming closer to God. By tradition St Thomas went to India taking the Good News, and showing that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He is the patron of India, so that gives us all an opportunity to wish the many families of the Parish with Indian Heritage a very Happy Feast Day.
