Day Fifty nine: Monday 18th May 2020

Well another new week begins, thought I’d share with you what I’ve been reading.  As a fall back am working though St Therese of Lisieux, “Story of a soul”: the language is older but the message ever fresh. Then I am reading “Bright Evening Star”, a portrait of John Henry Newman by Rod Garner, it’s an easy read and a good introduction to this great English Saint. I have already quoted in the blog from “Finding your Hidden Treasure” by Benignus O’Rourke, how I had not heard of this gem before Bishop John recommended it I don’t know, but am now through a second reading. I have two biographies to go but am manfully working through Hilary Mantel’s “The Mirror and the Light”, which is the third volume of Wolf Hall: she can tell a story which is well researched and take you to the very place and time in her own inimitable style. So that is where I am; I also recognise I need to get my eyes tested too!
