The Solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is not only our Diocesan Marian feast day; it is also a very English devotion. Today marks the anniversary of the giving of the Scapular to St Simon Stock as a mark of the filial relationship established between Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the faithful who entrust themselves totally to her protection. It is interesting that in affirmation of the Devotion, the final apparition in Lourdes took place on the feast day itself and Mary herself revealed herself as Our Lady of Mount Carmel during the final apparition at Fatima.
