Day One hundred & fifty six: Sunday 23rd August 2020

We heard about Peter’s primacy today, and when you think about his ups and downs, some of the things he says and that he denied knowing Jesus three times you wonder how on earth he should be the first Pope! Yet when you listen to today’s excerpt from the letter to the Romans you understand how our Wonderful God can see beyond our human fragility and enable us to do what the World seems impossible and that’s how Peter became Pope and that is why we are the people we are, warts and all. Read again this magnificent reading and let it lift your hearts: “How rich are the depths of God – how deep his wisdom and knowledge – and how impossible to penetrate his motives or understand his methods! Who could ever know the mind of the Lord? Who could ever be his counsellor? Who could ever give him anything or lend him anything? All that exists comes from him; all is by him and for him. To him be glory for ever! Amen.
