Day One hundred & seventy two: Tuesday 8th September 2020

Anxiety seems to be a real concern for many young people. Social media is full of examples of young people opening their hearts about the anxiety they feel. How has this become a trend in our day or has this always been there but we have never had the courage to talk about it like this generation, as this was one of those “stiff upper lip” moments? What is important is that we must not ignore it, but find the gifts within us that allow us to be supportive and affirming and also good listeners. It is easy to rush to judgement and blame: it is easy to point the finger; even easier to say ”told you so” when what is needed is a great dose of TLC with the emphasis on care. It is no use hoping for the best, we have to be proactive, and that will only come when we work on building up a network of mutual trust. We find ourselves living in a period of life when all has changed and uncertainty seems to rule the day so perhaps it is not just the young who are anxious but all of us, and together we need to be strong in the storm, praying that the Lord will rise from the stern once more and calm the storm within. Peace be with you.
