Day Two hundred and nine: Thursday 15th October 2020

It’s the Great St Teresa of Avila’s feast day today, a woman of immense character, devotion and determination. In a man’s world she shines out and teaches and is heard. Her influence speaks to us through the history of the Church and she continues to breathe reform into our Spiritual lives, so that when we seem to have hit the heights, and the desert comes, we know how to go back to the basics: it’s no wonder she was made a Doctor of the Church. There are many phrases associated with St Teresa but in these times of uncertainty perhaps this well known one takes on a greater importance:

Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
