Day Two hundred and forty two: Tuesday 17th November 2020

One of the plus factors of the Pandemic is finding a little more time to read, so I thought I would share with you what has caught my eye. Have been reading Bishop Robert Barron’s latest book, “Renewing our Hope”, which has been rewarding and challenging. Have just completed a marathon read of Volker Ullrich’s first volume on the life of Hitler, which has been mind boggling and an incredible insight into history; I look forward to volume 2, but not just yet. Victoria Hislop is a superb story teller, and I was delighted to have heard her speak recently, have already read a few of hers but have started the one that first made her name, The Island. Have got Matthew McConaughey’s “Greenlights” musings as a dip in read and am just getting  started on Ben Macintyre’s latest, “Agent Sonya”; Ben shares history in such and enjoyable and readable and entertaining way. And finally I found a 1949 edition of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain when clearing out our family home and a chapter a day still makes me smile and sometimes laugh out loud!
